I got very lucky to be one of the beta testers for Maxis Fibre to the Home Broadband internet. It was only open to about 50 users in Bangsar Baru. Lucky Me! They had some sort of an interview for each of the beta testers, but apparently it wasn't too stringent and it was a rather good mix of power users, average users and "hardly any use" users.

This bump in speed is definitely a big one for me, as I was previously on the cheapest broadband package all this time. 512kbps Streamyx Package.

Considering its a fiber optic connection, its not super duper blazing fast, but it is very much more than adequate for the home user. OMG. you tube is where you see the biggest difference. It streams flawlessly on HD full screen. Torrenting is up to 600kbps!+++ Installation of the FTTH was seriously very labour intensive. These guys brought a snorkel to pull the cable to my home

And that was just the first team. They had to pull a cable from the main line to my home. These main cables were apparently gas filled. Once the cable was up, they filled it with gas, and that would be the conduit. The cable from the junction box to my home would be the fibre optic cable. The 2nd team was resposible for laying the cable from the junction box of the mainline into my home. They installed the Optical Cable junction in my hall

Then the 3rd team came in to fuse the fibre optic cable to a thinner manageble yellow wire to the modem. They really have to sort out the part about installation, as it is really very labour intensive to install just 1 modem. The engineers used a strange machine for connecting the two cables. Very geeky indeed

After verifying a good connection, with yet another device, they plugged it into the optic fibre cable modem.

No setup was necessary on the computer. Just plugged to the ethernet jack behind the modem, and another one to my computer. Simple as that.The home network hasn't been connected to the optical modem as of yet but i'll do that later. (err.. my workstation is littered with networking stuff. Have to clean it up.. later...) The beta testing is supposed to go on for the next three months before Maxis Offers FTTH to the public. Right now, the testing phase only involves a small area, Bangsar Baru, in Kuala Lumpur.

More to come, Maxis will be providing an IP phone for testing calls. Astro and Maxis are going to do a tie-up to provide HDTV thru the optical modem. Finally, Justification to buy a HDTV! As of now, with the light load of being in a testing phase, the speed is a "Happy fast". Just hopes it stays that way when the server gets loaded. I'm off to download stuff at my "happy fast" speed !!

Busting Malaysian GPS Myths

Why is it that Global Positioning System is catching on so extremely well in Singapore, and somehow in Malaysia, its still such a premium "toy" with everyone much too much wary about even the most basic understanding of GPS. I'm a very staunch supporter of Personel Navigation Devices, considering I'm really bad at directions, so every so often, Conversations with other geeky people would eventually drift to global positioning systems. I've been dabbling in GPS for the past 5-6 years, since the availability of low cost GPS receivers so here's what i've gathered.

Global Positioning Systems, Malaysian Myths and Truths

Its GPS not GPRS

Very simply, Global Positioning System GPS is not synonymous with General Packet Radio Service GPRS. The latter is for surfing the internet, 1st generation of internet surfing via Mobile. GPS receivers are also known as Personal Navigation Devices. Its like your Mini satellite dish, which receives multiple satellite signals which determines your exact location up to an accuracy of about 3 meters. Very Simply, the system is : Your receiver, and 27 satellites (3 spare) which orbit around the earth. This is the basic idea, and I'm only to be explaning the basics.

GPS is free.

There is no subscription cost invoved in GPS usage. However, AGPS, ie Assisted GPS, like whats available on some mobile phones like the Sony Ericsson c702 and the Nokia n95, incurs some cost. This is because of the "assisted" part. The assistance which is rendered is to use telephone company's cellular network to identify your approximate location, to about say 20 meters, so as to make it quicker to work out your accurate location using the satelites in the sky.

All GPS receivers are the same

This is so untrue. Right now, the industry leader is and always has been GARMIN. I'm not trying to plug GARMIN, but as you will see in the next few topics, GARMIN is by far, the most logical choice for GPS receivers. Many cars which come with non Garmin GPS receivers, i question the reliability of the maps and the ability for map updates. Besides that GPS receiver chipsets are another issue, again, the basic standard is embedded in modern Garmin receivers, which is the sirf star 3 chipset. quick to decipher satellite signals and accurate.

GPS Maps in Malaysia are free

YES!! We are fortunate that for GARMIN Personal Navigation Equipment, We have free Maps for Malaysia and Singapore which are available at http://www.malsingmaps.com Its actually run by a community of people who constantly add new roads and locations to the maps. Once you get into the rhythm of using the GPS, you can also be part of the Mapping community. If you buy a GPS receiver in Malaysia, it is likely that you will get a Malaysia Mapset, so its most likely that you would get a free map, whatever brand of GPS you buy.

GPS Maps always get outdated in Malaysia

Gps maps in Malaysia are updated rather regularly! Up to every two weekly or at the least, once every 6 months. Thanks to the great community of mappers. Mind you, for GARMIN devices only though. As i said prior, for non Garmin GPS receivers, Maps may get outdated, and updates may not be free.

GPS maps in Malaysia are not accurate

YES they are accurate. Especially in city areas, they are extremely accurate. See te picture at the begining of the post. Even small roads are marked out in the map. Obviously, not all maps in Malaysia are marked out, but you will be able to get around with the maps.

More expensive GPS receivers are more accurate

We will not get into the concept of Differential GPS. We're not launching a cruise missle here, so relatively all Personal Navigation devices have about the same accuracy of about 3 meters. So NO, more expensive GPS receivers will have the same accuracy, but will probably allow you to watch divx video files and play mp3 music or have a bluetooth connection to use as a speakerphone for your mobile.

GPS reception in Malaysia is poor

NO... unless you're in between some tall buildings, I should mention that GPS only works when the receiver is in sight of the sky. It doesn't work in tunnels and underground parking lots.

GPS bought in Malaysia cannot be used overseas

Oh yes you can, you just need to "find" the map for the country you intend to use it in. you can buy it. No I don't know how much they cost because I've never bought one before.

SO hope that solves some myths for wannabe users of GPS in Malaysia.

How much does it cost? What do i suggest?

Again, I suggest a basic Garmin Nuvi 205, a basic no frills receiver which should retail at about a thousand ringgit, If you're the type who likes to save a few bucks and risk not having a local warranty, the same model is available over the causeway for about 800 ringgit

Kia Sportage For Sale!

Finally, i'm planning to sell of my Trusty Kia Sportage. I was planning to keep the Kia Sportage to be used as a third car, but I don't have time to use the third car!! HA HA HA... So i'm planning to sell it off cheap. The manufacture date is 1998 and the Registration is in 1999. The car is Completely imported from Korea. Completely Built Unit. I have a picture of the import tag, on the rear window. It is 2000 CC, and the safety feature it has is ABS> Antilock braking system. It also has got 5 new tyres. Goodyear Fronteras. Even the spare tyre is new. Hardly used the tyres since i got the new tyres on. Initially i was planning to keep the car but because i gatal to buy the Honda Civic, this car has got to go la.. The total mileage on this car so far only about 110,000km. The condition is excellent, and paintwork is still good. If you buy the car, no need to do anything, just drive the car only..!! The interior of the car is clean and yes its an automatic gear. I've got the sports pedals so the brake and the accelerator is nearer together. I've also got a sports steering put on, and Sony Head Unit, which plays MP3 as well. The car is 4wd capable but I usually drive with the 2 wheel drive mode. Can adjust to 4wd high, 4wd low or 2wd modes.

The 2 Liter Sportage engine. Very Powerful, DOHC engine. Uses the same oil filter as the Proton Wira. So changing oil, No Problem. Any mechanic also can change the oil.

Reviving an Old Nitro glow plug Radio Controlled Car..

My brother passed me his 2 year old Kyosho RC car.. The great thing was that it was FOC, and even greater was the fact that it was a nitro Glow plug engine car! THe bad news was that he had not run it for the past two years. We found out after i took it out of the box that the engine had seized..

Finally got some 25% Nitro from the local toycity Ipoh parade, a few days back. Cost me 30 ringgit for half a litre! Decided to seriously try to get the car moving again.

Took me a night to partially disassemble the engine .. The crankcase had seized, due to lots of gooey stuff in it.. WD 40 the whole thing, then it was ok.. The piston and crank was nice and loose.. When i tried to start it, the starter section also stuck.. had to clean that also, and apparently the pull start bearing also jam.. WD40 also don't seem to work that well.. After getting things slightly loose, Reassembled the engine onto the car, poured some 25% nitro into the tank, primed it and after a few pulls, everything got loose.. Realized that the best thing to get the stuff loose was the nitro itself.. Still.. no ignition.. Removed engine heatsink and checked out the glowplug.. Apparently, The paint on the heatsink was the problem, Crocodile clips of the starter battery wasn't heating up the plug.. A little scratching later, glowplug lit up well.. After that, a little priming.. and vroom vroom.. engine started.. Quite fun to play, but the road outside my house is really too rough for the GT car.. looking for some better paved roads..Either that or get some buggy tyres for the car.. Al in all .. Good fun.. The sound of the engine is AWESOME.. Just like the sound of F! cars on TV.. The best part was starting the car after rebuilding the engine.. Its like resuscitating a dying patient back to life. HA HA!!

Turtle Wax "ICE" review

I finally bought Turtle Wax "ICE" yesterday.. 20% discount at Jaya jusco sale. Came up to 80 ringgit with a bottle of free tutlewax zip wax car shampoo. Oooh Used it this morning.. and it is really Very easy to use. So easy to apply and easy to remove. Really no white residue. The after effects, Shine is on par with turtle wax platinum. The wonder is that it also waxes all the rubber and plastic at the same time. Applying it is like using a wet sponge to wipe a car. It doesn't really dry to a haze.. but it dries a little, After that its just wiping off with the provided microfiber cloth. If you're going to get 1 bottle of wax only and are also lazy to wax your car.. Ice is the bottle to get. Very easy to apply and buff.. No need orbital polisher also. Orbital polisher would be overkill.. Yes "ICE" is much easier than conventional waxes. Rememeber to was the car first. Use a wool mit or at least a chenille sponge to prevent scratches on your car during washing. and work from top to bottom as the sand is usually at the bottom, rinse washing pad frequently. AND most important.. must dry either with lots and lots of "good morning" towels or buy a really good Chamois. (japanese real chamois not some bullshit one) Problem with ICE is that it will not remove water spots. THat one have to use real wax. ICE can only shine clean surfaces.. Get some tyre shine liquid for your tyres as you buy the "ice" also.. Hand Job also will be satisfactory. Machine would be overkill for "ICE" however i've yet to see the long term effects of Ice.

Honda Civic 2.0 FD2 Malaysian Spec.

I've finally got my Honda Civic!! Booked it on December 12th 2007, and got delivery on the 13th of Jan 2008.. So its a 2008 car. Its a nice car. Got the Mugen BK from GC motorsport. They did a rather good job on the bodykit.. 99% satisfied. Paint job also satisfactory, but after washing car today.. realized that i'll have to clay bar part of the rear BK as the paint job wasn't very smooth. Honda waxed my car before delivery, but they machine waxed it and burnt parts of the waxing.. i hand waxed the whole car to fix it.. Its a holiday today so i spent most of the day washing and polishing it. Used totally turtle wax Platinum series. I suggest anyone going to looking for turtle wax to buy the "ice" version. I had a lot of trouble with the leftover white in the seams of the car from the platinum wax. Other mods in my car include the mugen replica sidestep and the illuminated keyring. (will have to go back to GC to fix the plastic covers over the steering as i think it wasn't fitted back properly by GC or something broke during assembly) A small DIY mod, which i made due to small pebbles thrown up by the tyre entering the sideskirt.. making a lot of noise.. show u picture afterwards. Its just a piece of plastic double taped to block of the channel which pebbles accumulate The Civic Side Profile really looks much better with the Mugen Bodykit. Gives it a much more agressive stance.. Also of course gives it a slightly more customized look without sacrificing the stock car values.. The rear 3/4 angle is probably the best angle to take a pic of the civic. The high trunk with its tapering nose makes it most beautiful. The eight year old putra is starting to show its age both in the paintwork quality as well as the design.. I kept the car numbers there in case any of you want to buy number la...

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Diver Recompression in Malaysia

I'm working in Malaysia's Premier Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Diver Recompression Chamber today. Picture on the left shows the 6 person chamber being used at "The Centre for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine" in Greeentown, Ipoh, Perak. Rather nice setup here.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is rather new in its clinical use in Malaysia. There are only 3 main centres, one each in KL, Ipoh and Penang. Other centres use monoplace chambers which are small one person hyperbaric chambers.This Hyperbaric Chamber, is the most widely used one, as it is the pioneer commercial Hyperbaric Wound Care centre in Malaysia

The Underwater Medicine Consultant in this centre also Decompressess divers with Decompression Illness or DCI. I supervised a Diver Decompression 3 months back, diver enjoyed his 8 hours of Oxygen, and went back a pain free happy diver.

As far as Daily business is concerned, the clinical hyperbaric oxygen theraphy here deals more with wound care, especially with diabetic wounds. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not a miracle cure, but it sure gives these diabetic wounds literally a good breath of life.

When in the Chamber, what happens is that the patients are literally pressurized and then asked to inhale pure oxygen for a duration of time. During the time in the chamber, the entire body of the patient is fed with a big boost of oxygen. There is a big boost of Oxygen because not only is blood carried in the hemoglobin of the blood, the increased pressure of the enviroment allows oxygen to be carried by even the plasma of the blood. Plasma is the fluid which bed blood cells swim in. This leads to more than a hundred fold of oxygen reaching previously oxygen starved places of the diabetic wounds.

As with all medical procedures, there is no 100% guarantee, but this breath of life will at least make the scales tip to your favour.

Finally.. A tablet PC to call my own. I've always been amazed with the capability of Tablet PCs to fold into a Slate, amazed with its capability to read Emags and Ecomix with a little more ease, being foldable and all.

The main thing that was in the way was the Phenomenal high price of Tablet PCs. This HP tablet was really a steal as it was priced about only 30% higher than the cheapest entry level PC at this time.

The great points of the Tablet? Inherently its design. The Tablet. Besides that, for an entry level notebook, it boasts fingerprint recognition technology, 12 inch touch screen. (Not a touch pad with the wacom pen. You can actually click icons using any pen.), a remote control for the Tablet PC which hides away in the express card slot, DVD burner with lightscribe, multi card reader (doesn't read CF... Damn) and Altec Lansing Speakers, and TWO batteries. 160GB Hardrive and 1GB ram ( which i quickly upgraded to 1.5GB. another 512mb will be coming soon.) lastly.. VISTA.

The Fingerprint recognition tech is rather practical. I sign into the computer without needing to type in a Password, just swipe the finger. I can also sign into Gmail using the same finger. What happens if you finger gets damaged? You have the option of swiping all 10 fingers. So if you finger gets damaged, you can't type anyway... ha ha!!

The Touch screen is pretty unsensitive. Don't know why.. Compared to my Pocket PCs i actually have to use quite a lot of force to use the touch screen. But using the touchscreen with the built i stylus sort of solves the problem. I guess thats why HP said that the touchscreen was optimized for stylus input. The screen is a bit dull too.. Not very bright, but enough.

The Remote control is quite a nice throw in. Very compact. Can you see it at the bottom of the picture above? Fits snugly into the express card slot. Controls the media Player and also slideshows. Great for presentations.

This is one of the reasons for getting the Tablet PC. Reading emagazines. Folding up the Tablet to slate mode, I get a pretty readable Emagazine. Page turning is by touch screen. With Emagazines so easily available on the internet, I've got more magazines to read now than ever. Granted, the Tablet is a bit heavy to hold, but look at it this way, you can never ever fold a regular notebook. I've got collection of ecomix too, Tintin, Asterix, Groo.. Punisher, yea.. its a better way to lie in bed or on the sofa rather than sitting in front of your PC to read something relaxing.

What you pay is what you get?

Before i type further the next tablet in this model line up costs about 50% more with a smaller 80gb hard drive. and its only a Turion tl-56 so its not much of a upgrade for the price being paid.

OK.. my tablet pc processor leaves a bit more to be desired. Its only running an Athlon 64 X2 tk-53 at 1.7 Ghz. After using it for some time, i realized that this processor doesn't have a regular speedstep kind of technology like my old 1st generation centrino notebook. Its got kind of a Manual speedstep technology. Have to manually set the performance to low, med or high.

The Heat? The heat is terrible but still bearable. Hot as Hell. With all the hot air blowing out form the Fan behind, i bet i could cook and egg if i left it behind the fan for long enough. So far, i've used it to dry my table after i spilt water on it. Its not for using on your lap for certain. Would be uncomfortable to have cooked skin. Putting it on the table is ok.

The actual Processor speeed? I'm rather pleased with it. Comparing to my aging 1st generation Centrino, 1.5 Ghz with 768mb Ram and this Athlon 1.7Ghz with 2gb Ram, the Performance on the Athlon tablet is moree than double that of the Centrino. I used a free Benchmarking software Novabench.

On Vista's benchmarking, lowest score was 2.4 on the Gaming graphics although i had given is 128mb ram in the BIOS settings. Processor was highest at 4.6

I don't do any heavy processing stuff. Its more for light picture editing, blogging, as a media companion and presentations. I'm happy with the processor speed. Acomplishes all my tasks well. The tagline for this tablet is as an entertainement PC

Remember I said 2 batteries? When at best performance mode, the 4 cell slim light batteries lasted only 2 hours. Ha ha ha.. Peanuts! I suppose the other battery, which is a 6 cell would do 3 hours. 6 cell battery is bubble wrapped in the picture above. But still, since i don't commute by train or anything, that isn't a problem.

Windows VISTA! What to say? Ready or not, we have been forced to embrace it. After shutting down all the gay graphics crap, switching everything to Best Performance in visual effects, albeit 2 functions, the buttons and thumbnails instead of icons (for the pictures la). Performance is ok. No issues on my usage level. I suppose I'm easy to satisfy due to my paltry neeeds. The worst part about getting this Vista machine is NETWORKING!!! HAAA!!! My old network of router and Switch doesn't seem to work. Right now i can only network with my other computer VIA my rotten old Dlink wireless b router. LAN netwroking with the old switch is not working. Read up quite a bit including installing a patch for the XP machines, but sadly its a no go. I've come to the conclusion that i will have to upgrade my Networking Hardware to get it going. A linksys or Belkin router will be next on my list.

The bottom line is: YES! I'm happy with my new aquisition. Happy with the price I paid. Isn't it wonderful to get something you want at the price you want? Yea!

Double Monitors with my Notebook

I've always had this lack of Desktop real estate. When i do any webpage editing its always difficult that i can open another page or view my updates, or when I'm watching a movie in fullscreen, i want to be able to surf the web too. Or work on a document. The Best solution for me now is the double monitor option.

How Many monitors can you see in the Picture? As you can see from the picture, I'm using my 3 year old 15.4" Compaq Presario V100 notebook with my 17" Samsung SyncMaster 760BF monitor. The Great thing about my monitor is that its able to swivel to Potrait mode. Its GREAT for reading comics, Emagazines and the like. The Notebook runs on 1024x768 resolution and the samsung 1280x1024.

Swiveling the Samsung monitor is efffortless as it comes with hardware and software to adjust your screen to Portrait or Landscape. Once you start using Portrait mode, you kind of get hooked on it as its very instictive to read in that view. It feels so much more natural.

To set it up, LCD monitors are cheap now. Go get one!

If you want something that can swivel to portrait, there are only a few in the market. As far as i know Samsung carries 2 model. One locally made costs about 650 ringgit (mine) and one from Korea. (Better screen actually, double the price.)

Just Plug it to the RGB output of your notebook, or better yet if your notebook support Digital Video.

If you got a swiveable monitor like mine, install the included software.

If you didn't get a swiveable monitor, just adjust display properties to configure your primary and secondary displays.

Get Ready for double the desktop real estate, and double your productivity or fun, whichever comes first.

New addition to my Suunto family

I got a Suunto T1 trainer.It was a good deal at www.lelong.com.my OK.. I admit, it isn't new, it was sold as an Open Box. After purchasing and getting it by COD, i realized that it was indeed an open box, the content was as good as new. Had only been used for training a few hours, according to the T1's history.
It'll be joining my Suunto Mosquito diving computer.These Suunto wristop computers are really amazing. Suunto people just think of something they need to make, and they just do it. The Suunto T1 came with a wireless Heart rate monitor. Thats the flat piece of plastic looking thing that you see in the picture. It doesn't come with a hardware switch but after some research at www.suunto.com it switches on when there is contact between the 2 electrodes, namely the two ends of the heart rate monitor. Its rated to have 300 hours of active use. Very cool, no wires attached. I don't have time for a lengthy review, so i'm just gonna go straight to the bottom line. What the Trainer does is basically, monitor your heart rate, and keep you heat rate within limits that you specify. When your heart rate falls above or below the set limits, it will automatically buzz, informing you that you're screwing up your exercise regime. Pretty Handy.. its like a personal trainer with a 1 track mind. Takes the Guess work out of the workout. Besides that, it shows the duration of exercise, estimates the calories you burnt during your exercise duration. Next on the list to buy is a mountain bike, and find a few friends who want to take up mountain biking, and find some places to ride..

Google Maps on your PDA!

Google Maps on your Windows Mobile. Well for me its Google maps on my Ipaq HX2750. I just noticed on the Google for mobile startup page had a link "Download Google Maps" Since it was on the Mobile site, i decided to try it out. Downloading it via Digi EDGE was quick, and installation was just as quick. Starting up Google maps for mobile brought me to a drawn map in America.. Promptly searched for Kuala Lumpur and it was just empty. I realized that i could switch between map and satellite image. Well here's the picture of Malaysia via satellite map on my PDA. Later i found the Bangsar LRT station. Its nice to see Singapore having a very detailed Map done by google. Even Thailand and Indonesia have road maps. I'm just guessing that the Malaysian Government has dissallowed showing our Roadmaps to the world! How to improve if there is so much red tape in Malaysia? So sad. Anyway, having Google maps on the PDA is something nice and new. You can eventually search for various Points of intrest like the enarest post office, etc.. The zoom factors are pretty good. I can actually see the road inront of my house, as well as the Yellow Traffic box drawn on the road near my house. I bluff you not. To get Google maps for your PDA, just log in to www.google.com with internet explorer on your PDA. Try it its good fun to see the world from above on your PDA. I think God also may be using a PDA with a variant of Google map to se what you're doing too.. LOL

Garmin GPS 10x, Mobile XT and Que Reviewed.

Newer is Better? The Garmin GPS 10x is Garmin's upgrade for the GPS 10. Now with Sirf Star III technology. It has a Single Multifunction button, and an unconventional 2 LED configuration.The LED near the power sign (which is also the power on button) is green, indicating charging, and the blue LED which you see lit in the picture on the left indicates that the unit is powered on, satellite lock and also if its connected to your bluetooth device or not. I've had this unit for 3 months now, and although its written in the manual what the rhythm the blue flashes mean, its been to difficult for me to decipher them as of yet.. Maybe with time.... There's also no external antenna capability. Charging is by Mini USB. There is no provision for an external antenna as there is no mmcx plug. Maybe a reradiating antenna would work. My Asian Package came with the GPS receiver, a belt clip and the car charger. There was no CD bundled together. But not to worry, Garmin Mobile XT and Garmin Que are available from Garmin's website for use with your Pocket PC or Palm OS PDA and Mobile XT even works on Symbian 60 phones. I will be reviewing the Pocket PC versions.

On the left is the Holux GPSlim236 bluetooth GPS receiver coupled with the iPAQ hx2750 running Garmin Que. Its using GPS proxy as a 3rd party mediator to enable non Garmin GPS to use Que. On the Right is the Garmin GPS 10x bluetooth GPS receiver coupled with the iPAQ rx3715 running Garmin Mobile XT directly. There is no 3rd party software available at this time to enable non Garmin GPSr to use Mobile XT.

After i installed Garmin Mobile XT, I realized it came with a Basemap of the world. It was quite cool as you could zoom out anywhere in the world and there would be Map! Previously I never had it on Que. Well anyway, the basemap should be available here for those of you who don't have it.

The Malaysian Map Gmasupp.img downloaded from Malsingmap is integrated into the basemap so as you zoom into Malaysia, the detailed map takes over.

This is really a nice plus point as you feel nice having the whole world in your hand.

As you can see, Garmin Que has a utilitarian display. No fancy graphics or 3D display. I feel that using 3 day display is very difficult as 2D displays are more objective. This is the fancy 3d display with Garmin Mobile XT. Really looks pretty nice but however i don't think altitude has been actually incorparated in our maps, hence ramps will not bee seen as any elevation at all. Its still rendered 3D, not actual 3D maps. so the information is actually 2D information. The 3D mode can be switched back to 2D mode.. (Thankfully for me)

As you can also see, on XT there is no option to display various information at the top bars. Thats not good! Que gives you the option to display a variety of information simultaneously on the screen.

The Detail on the XT is also lacking. For some reason even with XT on full detail map, some street names just won't be displayed.! Similarly look at the world map.

Garmin Mobile XT and Garmin Que. The differences...

There are a lot of differences between Moblie XT and Que. For starters, Many would applaud the revamped Grahical User Interface on MXT. It really is beautiful, with even 3D road maps, more refined graphics and a seemingly a more user friendly GUI. But all this comes at the expense of loss of tweakability. Thats one quality i really hate to lose. Over the next post, I'm gonna squirm about what i lost from Garmin Que and What I gained from Mobile XT.

Garmin Que GPS 10 Properties Page. When Que is connected to a Garmin GPS, the battery level and power settings as well as WAAS are displayed. As you see in Que, the exact percentage is displayed while on Mobile XT just has a Power Bar.

In Garmin Que's Map setup, there's a lot to setup on one page. Tabs at the lower screen enable you to have a good general overview of available options. You can also toggle individual segments of the Maps which you want to include during POI search. This will make searching quicker in Que. As you can see, a few of my maps are not ticked as i don't want to search for POIs in thoses areas. This feature is not available on Garmin Mobile XT.

Where as in Garmin MXT, they have made the GUI much larger, it seems as to accomodate for finger use rather than stylus use. Sometimes, because of the lack of the general overview as in Que, it tends to get kinda difficult to actually see the property you want to tweak. Thus all the areas which need to be touched are magnified about 5 times! LOL.. A great thing on the MXT is the Location Format though. U can get to choose location format and this will come in handy.

Actually Using Gamin Que and Garmin MXT

The Old and Proven Versus new Young Blood.

I've been using Garmin Que for the past 2 years. Its been extremely useful for me. I've got this terrible sense of direction which GPS has now become a major treatment. Garmin Que is just utilitarian, sufficently user friendly, and plain simple to use. It has excellent integration to the Pocket PC, and it tends to potray that it is a software that was built for the Pocket PC, utilizing the Pocket PC's interface and character input very well. Garmin Mobile XT on the other hand for designed for the fingers. (Pun intended! LOL) Mobile XT was probably designed for Garmin new range of Hip Looking GPS road navigator systems, to compete with the the likes of tom tom, iGO and others. SO, it doesn't actually utilize Pocket PCs accurate touchscreen. Everything looks really big on Mobile XT.

With Garmin Que, you tap the "find" button at the bottom of your page and the find "whatever" screen pops up with thumbnails as a GUI showing upto 15 thumbnails i a page. When you spell out what you're looking for by name, it takes only a short while to conjure up for example "1 utama" then you click on details and you see the place you're looking for.

With Garmin Mobile XT. As I previously wrote.. Things get magnified to be finger friendly. So you get less interactibility per page and more scrolling is needed. Finding Addresses with Mobile XT is still a pain because due to a Garmin software incompatibility with our Malsingmaps, you will have to use "spell name". Untill Malsingmaps is able to fix that, with malsingmaps, you will have to use a workaround to find addressess on mobile XT> (But thats an entirely different story.) Mobile XT takes almost forever to find "1 utama" And notice that there is no option for stylus input. And again, its taking forever about at least 60 seconds more to search around the "Kilometres" radius. TERRIBLE!! Whats the point of having a letter recognition we don't have the option of using it? and why so slow?

Garmin Que incorporates the use of Shortcut buttons of your Pocket PC to Speak the current status, to centre your vehicle on the Map, as well as many other programable functions. This is especially handy as just with the press of a button, your Pocket PC will speak the next turn information. Tapping the box at the lower left hand corner will also bring up the scale at which to zoom your map to. Which is quick and accurate.

Garmin Mobile XT does not incorporate your hardware buttons as well. You can use the directional keypads to swtich the zoom level and switch among onscreen choices, but pressing other harware buttons will not work for the program.It will follow the Pocket PC's preprogrammed shorcuts. This isn't good. There is also no scale at which you can zoom to instantly. You will either have to tap the "+" and "-" virtual onscreen buttons or use the direction pad to change zoom levels.Drawing rate is either a little faster than Que or about the same..

A Summary of Garmin Que and Garmin Mobile XT in terms of my usage.

Although this is not an in depth trial, I still think that the Garmin Que is excellent for use in the Pocket PC as it was designed much more for the Pocket PC. Garmin Mobile XT seems to have inherited much from its current breed of popular mobile raod navigators, where finger tapping has become a more important part of the GUI. I don't think Mobile XT has evolved to be more versatile, just more "idiot proof". I suppose for the new line of Portable GPS, Finger tapping is the way to go.. like the new HTC touch, less stress on stylus, more stress on your finger. GPS for w810i via Bluetooth Holux GPSlim 236 Java application

GPS on Sony Ericsson w810i using a Bluetooth GPS receiver Holux GPSlim 236! I'm so glad to have found this program. Its available for FREE!! Its available at http://www.trekbuddy.net/ or the trekbuddy0.9.55 version is available at the further part of this article . This GPS software also works on most of the newer SE phones. like the k610, k618 and probably all the 176x220 resolution sony ericssons. Don't know if it works on the k800 series or not. As you can see from the picture, (click it and the picture enlarges) I just got it working, Its using the default world map now and lock is at KL.. No stupid GPRS fees like in the nokias.. It uses the BT gps receiver. It is going to be a sort of hassle to get the maps in, so i'm gonna look for some ready made maps. It seem the forum said it uses the oziexplorer type maps, prbbly a PNG or BMP or Jpeg. Have to check it out later.. But as for now, it displays basic location thru GPS coordinates, and travelling speed.. I've gotta find out later how to use this Java application for camping and stuff... try to find my way home in a new place or city,, something like that.. Possibilities are endless.. Now we've got BT GPS on mobiles. Java mobiles.. virtually every modern mobile can now utilize a BT GPS receiver. Functions i found out so far.. can speed, location, sms location, keep the backlight on, and still looking at how to load maps in.. I found out something new.. One of the most important things for me was to be able to use the phone as a backup GPS display for my holux GPSr. Because I'm the idiot who didn't read the manual, i just found out about this capability of the program by pressing the # key. Basically this feature works just like the Beeline GPS thingy.. No maps, just a plain screen where you can store a waypoint and the arrow points towards the waypoint. sorry for poor image.. i don't know how to get a screenshot from my phone. So even without maps, this program would be great for a walk in the jungle, sport fisherman looking for a fishing spot etc.. (never lose your way home) and a mobile is always hardier than a PDA. Maps would be a added cool factor but lack of routing makes it rather lacking.Anybody got the maps, please post a link at comments

BTW if you all need the Thawte Premium certificate its available here.(Thawte Premium certificate) Instructions for easy installation.. taken from the trekbuddy site from ranger SE phones Installation Guide (based on k750i) 1. Download TrekBuddy jar and jad files to PC (pls don't use other phones versions) 2. Connect phone to PC and copy two files to memory stick, ie E:\MSSEMC\Media files\other\tb folder. You can create it if not present. Create folder for logs on memory stick, ie e:\tracklogs 3. Disconnect phone from PC. 4. Open phone file manager and go to Other folder, you will see tb folder with app files. 5. Install using jad file. You can use Info option to be sure that file you install have jad extension. Choose Application folder as destination. 6. When manager ask to start app choose NO. 7 Go to Applications folder, select Trekbuddy and use More option. 9. In Permission menu choose Read User Data and set Never Ask. (If you don't have such option you not installed from jad or java root certificate is not present. The Settings DiGi provides, DiGi MMS, DiGi Wap and DiGi Streaming doesn't work well with checking email. You have to create a separate Digi Net account like below which is more reliable. A2DP for W810i and HX2750 solution with i.tech Blueband and Bluecon

GOING WIRELESS WITH MUSIC When i got my W810i, having a walkman again was quite a lot of fun. But it slowly wore out when i had to unravel the always tangled headsets. I really hated that! So the only way was to unwire. I recently purchased yet another Bluetooth device. The i-tech blueband Bluetooth Headset. These work with the new A2DP profile found on newer bluetooth v2 devices. Unfortunately, my W810i does not have A2DP so it can't directly stream music to my new headphones. I have to use their Bluecon dongle. The great thing about this pair of headsets is that it connect to (at least) 2 devices simultaneously. Which means, that as i am listening to music streaming from the dongle, i can also have it simultaneously paired to my w810i handsfree profile. It works perfectly. When calls come in, the walkman stops, and the call can be received on the Blueband headset. After the conversation ends, the music comes back on. Great foresight on the part of the iTech blueband design. This is the solution to the w810i problem of not having an A2DP profile. SE will probably not upgrade the bluetooth stack in the w810i to support A2dp so this setup seems to be the best choice. The only extra thing is having a dongle sticking out of the W810i while listening to music.

As you can see in the pictures, the first picture shows the back of my phone and the back of the A2Dp dongle stuck with velcro branded low profile pads. The low profile furry black velcro blends with the color of my phone and the low profile hooks are stuck to the back of the a2dp dongle. With the short headphone adapter for the Sony Ericsson Fastport, there's no mess of wires and it make a good stand at a 45 degree angle for viewing movies too.. When the Bluetooth dongle is not in use, the velcropad on my phone is unobtrusive. I have also been using the headset with my iPAQ HX2750 PDA. Originaly, my HX2750 also does not come with A2DP support. but I've found the patch which enables my HX2750 running WM2003se to utilize High quality audio setup. This is similar to A2DP support. Large headphones are definately much better than the little puny headphones. Overall a satisfactory gadget.

Newly made wire. I cut up a pair of fake sony headphones and shortened the wire.Resoldered to the fastport plug. It now has a mic, the button and the sony walkman logo. Usable as a handsfree with any stereo headphones. Showing you the original wire for comparison.

Clip Mod for Sony Ericsson IV-835 Bluetooth Headset

I finally modded my IV-835 bluetooth headset. Its better now that i don't have to stick it in my ear all the time. I can now clip it to my shirt like a pen. I don't know why sony doesn't make a similar clip. My design is not refined yet, so it has a rough finishing, but its functional. The clip need not be removed to stick the bluetooth into your ear. If sony made this, they could fabricate it to have a lower profile, which would make it fit better to the ear and look nicer too. I'm trying to find someone to fabricate the mould.. anyone knows who fabricates such moulds? Making it... I bought the cheapest charger i could find, which was a 10 ringgit car charger with the fastport plug. Cut the fastport plug into 2. After that, i cut off the stem off a pen, and drilled a whole into the pen cover. O then screwed the stem of the pen cover to the plug and superglued it for some sturdiness. Works well, now i can clip the bluetooth to my pocket when its not stuck to my ear. This clip works well with the iv-835 has the headset does not have a loop to get in the way when clipped to my pocket.

Sony Ericsson IV-835 Bluetooth Headset aquisition review

My Old Logitech headset actually broke. Went hunting for a replacement. Finally purchased this Sony Ericsson iv-835 Bluetoooth Headset via an internet dealer. The greatest thing about it is that it uses the same charger as my W810i. No more necessity of carrying more chargers while travelling, and I get a spare charger. Besides that, the usual technical geektalk, Bluetooth 2.0, DSP, tiny form factor. Stuff i noticed after i got it, Its got no loop over the ear, but its light enough to stuff into the ear canal. I had to use the largest ear bud. Its rather comfortable, but seriously, not snug enough to go jogging with. A small amount of headbanging will definately send the headset flying. Another point to note.. You CANNOT eat keropok crackers while using this headset!! Try stuffing your finger into your ear and eat the keropok crackers, the feedback is LOUD! Also, the redial function doesn't work, even with my w810i. Gonna email sony aboout it. **update: well i finally got it to work. Have to double press the button very very fast, for the redial to work. Even after knowing to have to double press it very fast, sometimes i still don't seem to press it fast enough.** I'm going to mod this headset soon so that i can put some sort of clip onto it to facilitate me clipping it to my shirt while working. I hate to have the headset in my ear all the time. More pictures after i mod it.

Sony Ericsson W810i New Aquisition

Finally.. after 6 months of cotemplating, I replaced my aging almost 2 year old Sony Ericsson T630 to the newer W810i The new W810i is Great.. Much faster Processor, and it has EDGE, which is great with DiGi, my cellphone provider. I have a small data plan for my DiGi account so edge is good for me.. Great things about the W810i: Its got EDGE! about 384 kbps down, which is half as fast as my streamyx. Plan to use it with my notebook for wireless data access.. Costs much less than any 3G access (i think) Walkman! Thats great, has a loud speaker too. Upgraded Java. Allows Maybank 2u use from my mobile and also the new Gmail mobile version. Looks Great! really.. my old T630 is aging in the aesthetics factor. Techie toys for geeky boys. The thing i hate most: It doesn't support Bluetooth Voice answer. Even my old T630 supported it but not this newer w810i. It also doesn't support the Voice redial. Its quite a big problem for me, as this means I can't answer calls with my Bluetooth headset anymore while scrubbed up. Still looking for a solution for this. Maybe a firmware hack may be possible. Smells really nice, like a honey dew melon. Smells so sweet raw. This was cooked with fried shrimp, dried chilli and garlic. Tasted rather fine. HAPPY HALOWEEN.. 31st October 2006. Garmin Que (Pocket PC)

This software has the most comprehensive and accurate maps. Maps are constantly updated by active mappers at http://www.malsingmaps.com/ . It is "rather legal" to use Garmin Ques with your PDA and this software requires no purchase. However it would be "perfectly legal " if you used it together with a Garmin GPS 10 receiver. So according to sabre23T at malsingmaps, its still a grey area. A step by step guide for installation is available at http://www.malsingmaps.com/ so its really easy to install and use on you PPC. Just be thankful to the mappers at http://www.malsingmaps.com/
iMAP from Navitech (Pocket PC)

This has a fairly accurate map with a nice GUI. It is a clone of Mapking, But the Map has been polished up. I think they have also polished up their map so as it is now a right hand drive map. Roundabouts go clockwise. Supports 3D views. Supposedly the firm is based in Singapore. Their website is at http://www.navitech.com.my/ Trial versions of this software is available but quite difficult to obtain. Trial software is unavailable for download at their website but should be available on request. Their Maps are more detailed than Mapking, as they are newer. They're newest map is dated 15th October 2006. The interesting part of this software is that it also has the building footprint on the map as well. This is quite nice as you can actually judge the building size on the map. This software with Malaysian and Singapore Map costs about 450 ringgit on its own. However It comes bundled with Holux GPS devices purchased from Navitech. MAPKING (Pocket PC)

Brother of iMAP, Mapking Version 7 is one of the leading GPS software, and is also bundled with HP GPS enabled Pocket PCs. Their maps are not as accurate as iMAP as they are slightly older. Their roundablouts go anticlockwise due to the taiwanese influence. Creates some havoc at highway ramps. Their most recent Malaysian map upgrade is in March 2006. Trial versions are available from their website at http://www2.mapking.com/en/MK7/MK7_Dowload_Eng.htm A new mapking Version G10 is also out. It looks similar to the maps from Navitech, but the Map version for Malaysia is still the same maps as from Version 7. So newest "Mapking Style" maps are still from iMAP Navitech.
Handymap AI Gold (Pocket PC) Similar to Mapking and iMAP in its presentation, this new software reads all mapking G10 maps as well as iMap maps. So if you're going to install 1 "Mapking like" software this is the one to install. I have it in my PPC, and it also reads all the Malaysian Mapking style maps from MalsingMaps.com

MioMap/iGo (Pocket PC)

This software is originally meant for the Mio PPC but after some tweaking, currently it works on most Pocket PCs. wm2003se as well as WM5. This is actually a clone of the iGO software and all map upgrades will be handled by iGO. The MioMap V 3.2 uses iGO 2006 maps. This software has an Excellent looking map. Best 3D views available. But the map coverage is so so. You can find some POIs and roads with it. But its an excellent software to show off with.Supposedly it can actually find places with the postcode, but however, that doesn't work with Malaysian maps.
AGIS Navigator (Pocket PC)

The maps are not very detailed at all. One nice function that it has a direction arrow, so if you mark a certain location, there will be a line perpetually pointing to that location. (Some sort of beeline thing. Sooner or later, you'll reach your location. I can see it being very usefull in off road tracking. Otherwise, city routing is difficult. GPS Tuner (Pocket PC)

This software doesn't come with Maps, but i've included this as you can make your own maps for this. It marketed as a GPS software solution for Off-Road use. Its great for off road use. With Google earth, you can make your own map, and the off road terrain can be quite clearly made out. See the topic on how to make the maps here:

Garmin nRoute (Notebooks, Carputers and PCs)

Garmin Nroute is the most excellent mapping software for notebooks. Nroute is available from the Garmin Website and requires you to have a licensed Garmin Mapsource software to be previously installed. Read more at http://www.malsingmaps.com/ It uses maps from Malsingmaps, so 'nuff said. Again, at Malsingmaps, you can learn how to use a Bluetooth GPSr to work with Nroute using GPSProxyPC and Com0Com. That is slightly complexed and exhaustive. I've given up with GPSProxy PC and have resorted to using Franson GPSGate. Franson GPSgate is easy to setup but it comes with a price if you're going to use it after its trial period.

Mapking for PC (Notebooks, Carputers and PCs)

Mapking for PC has a rather nice GUI too. Maps are similarly slightly old, last map in march 2006. Setup is simple for BT GPSr as the software searches the receiver itself. Finding POIs is rather straightfoward. Also requires purchase from the Mapking website.

Upcoming Navitel Navigator 2

This is by the same makers as Russa, its a Russian software, similar in implementation to Garmin que and is supposed to be the successor for Garmin Que. Its still not widely used yet as it costs 30 us dollars or more. Best thing is that it can convert Garmin maps which are available for free (still free at this time at malsingmaps) to be used with this software. A 3d version is on the way, so it may be the best looking and best functioning GPS software in the near future. This completes the current selection of Malaysian and Singaporean Maps fo the Pocket PC and notebooks today. As we go along, maps should become more accurate and useful. For the meantime, select one of these and hopefully get where you want to go.

Got this new PPC program.. GPS tuner.. It actually lets you use any JPG file as a map.. In this case i've use a google earth map of my housing area, and put it on my PDA. I can actually see the terarain quite clearly, and looks like it would be great for off road use...

Its Amazing! If you go for a short trip, this is what you may have to charge.. I have to charge My PDA, wife's PDA (not in pic), the spare battery, Digital Camera, batteries for walkie talkie, GPS receiver, my Bluetooth headset which is chargin elsewhere.. Have to carry along all the chargers also!! I've made it such that husband and wife use the same chargers, so 1 charger for the PDAs and 1 Charger for the phones.. . wife's mobile took this picture.. Look at all the little lights..... so cute...

Finally bought a 2GB Compact Flash card.. This is to supplement my previous 1GB SD plus USB card. Ths SD plus USB card is excellent, but to fully exploit its usefullness to double up as a Thumbdrive, I had to have more empty space in it.. (I love my SD card.. it converts into a USB readable drive by folding into 2. Probably the tinest thumbdrive around.) The only physically and economically viable option was a 2GB Compact Flash card for the other slot on my hx2750. I got a great deal from http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/gizmo.htm for the Apacer 150x 2GB CF. Anything more than 2GB was getting too expensive. I got more than enough storage space at this time, so I can keep power point presentations to refer to, hundreds of MP3s, even full length movies. My library of medical reference books have also increased.. All in isilo format. Compedium of Games.. ;). Basically.. I have lots of room for rent now in my pocket.

I have reported the matter to Maybank. and sent them an email. I asked them if anyone will read the email over the weekend.. they said NO.. Then if i were a criminal i suppose its best to strike during the weekend too. This just makes maybank's credibility go down the drain. This fellas are still active as within an hour, they have made changes to their website.. Now it also asks for atm number! How safe do you think maybank 2u is?

Doctors and insurance while in Ambulance transfers..

Page 8 Sunday Star, 10th september 2006 As far as I know.. and this has been a subject of discussion often in my circles.. Doctors are not covered by any insurance while in the ambulance transfereing patient. We used to call it:" kalau Mati, mati katak la" Only the Ambulance driver is covered with insurance! I have had friends hurt while transfering patients , not badly hurt enough to be in newspapers, they got a few days MC .. thats all. One friend can't smell much anymore for the rest of his life.. Clarify my behind!! Show the black and white la!! Dr Chua also another one.. Baffled my ass!! Doctors accompany ill and critically injured patient all the time, every day, in the ambulance.. Make sure chua knows what happens in his department before he talks!! In his time, maybe a nurse was enough. But with so much litigation nowadays, (remember the boy who's hand died because of in ambulance care?) Tyres!! My wife's hospital: New Tyres put on a Kementrian kesihatan pajero today, next day, somebody had changed them to 4 old tyres.. (maybe this is rare but it happens) On paper, the pajero has new tyres, but in reality- old ones) Why is it.. we have to wait for bad things to happen before something gets corrected? Human Nature? Anyway.. for the record.. this doctor has passed away.. government support was not great, they gently ignored the case and pushed it to some small thing as seen in http://medicine.com.my/wp/?p=1463 Sad but true..

Can the PDA replace the Notebook?

PDAs have come a long way. My iPAQ hx2750 Runs a intel bullverde 624 Mhz processor, with 128mb Ram and 128MB rom built in, SD and CF slot expandable. Wifi and Gprs via BT I can check mail, surf internet sites (barely, tell you why later), Read and Alter PowerPoint presentations, manage appointments, use Global Positioning, watch movies, listen to music and lastly and most importantly, I run a whole friggin library of medical software and textbooks. Checking mail is near perfect. I use Gmail, and Gmail has a mobile version which displays very well on my Pda Screen using Pocket Intenet Explorer. If I need to download lets say a powerpoint presentation, i use Opera for PPC. I can download the PPT and then view it with Clearvue's presentation software. Same goes for PDF files, download and read. No need for any conversion. The setback here is always the screen viewing area. 320 x 240 is just impossible to read much properly. Managing Appointments is definitely more convienient on a PDA rather than on anything else. With reminders and calenders and most of all, portability, nothing beats the PDA. Excellent. Multimedia. on a PDA is great. Playing MP3 music, and listening to music via Bluetooth wireless is great. Watching Videos with TCPMP software is excellent. Video on the move. You can watch your torrented movies and TV serials, anywhere, anytime. Storage on a PDA is quite large. If you have deep pockets, SD and CF cards will support many many GBs of storage space. See my Sandisk Ultra II SD Plus USB 1GB card review Global Positioning System on the PDA is Excellent!! I wish it were built in to my PDA, but I use my PDA with the Holux GPSlim 236 and coupled with Garmin Que Software, its great too! Never get lost, and the portablity of the PDA makes it entirely possible. Medical Software! I have 10-20 textbooks for reference at a time in my PDA. Using iSilo for the textbooks. Skyscape Medical Programs for my specialities, and the Netter's Anatomy atlas for PPC.. great.. Battery life is OK.. not great but better than notebook battery life, but with extended battery packs, car chargers available, light travel chargers available, you can always plug in and charge anywhere. Biggest advantage is the Portability of the the PDA. Fits in your pocket. Biggest problem is the small screen of the PDAs of nowadays. Need a slightly larger screen. This is why I need a 640x480 resolution in a big screen which is only available in the ipaq hx4700. A 4 inch screen with 640x480 resolution. Although you don't really get a total 640x480 , screen size is larger and it is more possible to use it for viewing regular PC desktop sized documents. Can't make the PDA too big though.. No one will be able to fit it in the pocket. Need it slightly thin with a plastic cover to protect the screen. So can the PDA replace the notebook? With a slightly larger screen with higher resolution, slightly thinner form factor, adequate protection for the fragile touchscreen, YES it can. Software is already available. Battery life is ok.. We can actually skip Tablet PCs for the meantime and skip WinXP tablet PC edition and jump on to the Windows Mobile 5 bandwagon (and hope they get the bugs out) It is now the Era of the Pocket PC!

HP's iPAQ rx4000 gets a big brother: the rx5915

This new line of consumer-oriented HP iPAQ devices is growing into a family right quick. We just saw the rx4000 a couple of days ago, and now we're catching wind of at least a couple rx5000 devices. The rx5000 types go with the "Travel Companion" moniker, since they include a SiRF Star III GPS receiver for a bit of navigation action. WiFi seems to be optional for the rx5000 units, but the rx5915 has it, along with a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen, 2GB of flash memory, 64MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0, SDIO slot, standard 3.5mm headphone jack and a 400MHz Samsung processor. Hopefully these specs give us a better indication of what HP is packing in the rx4000 units, and the flash memory size does appear to be a variable, so we're guessing we'll at least get a 2GB option in rx4000 land. The Travel Companion iPAQs feature a traditional 9-way direction pad, along with 2 Windows Mobile buttons, but none of the rx4000's jog dial action. As for price, the rx5915 weighs in at a hefty, if almost reasonable, $600. We've been hearing some rumblings about whether or not these new iPAQs were going to make it to the States, but we can at least say that the documentation we've seen shows off the rx5000 nav features gallivanting around North America, so we've got that going for us. WAREZ! whats that? Do you guys understand what the term Warez Means? Expanded, it means "illegal software" When you buy pirated software, you're not actually buying software at all. You're paying someone who stole the software of the developer. Most of the time, you're not even paying the guy who stole it. OK. The person who stole it is called the hacker. Hackers who steal it usually release the software for free. Its sort of like they're proud they could get past the protection the developer made to prevent it from being stolen. So they like people to know, the hack the software and release it for the massess. BUT let me make you aware, that there are website which hackers operate from and if you can find the websites, you can at least thanks the people who haced the programs, giving you an extended trial on softwares you may not have tried if it weren't available for nothing. SO thank the Hackers, and evaluate the programs and BUY if you like it.

Better from Chickenpox!

Exactly 1 week after getting diagnosed with chicken pox. (Started symptoms 9 days back.) Was on Acyclovir for 1 week. Much better already! Can smile HA HA!! Retrospectively.. I think the 1st day of acyclovir should have been a larger loading dose. ( I don't know for sure if it is practised or not.) Day 2 and Day 3 post diagnosis was the most difficult. Painful on day 2 and Day 3, lethargy malaise. Generally really bad.. All that i could do was sleep, sleep and more sleep. Slowly got Better.. Day 5 was the day which could be said to be significantly better. The face was the most badly hit with the pox. Body and limbs were relatively less pox. Thats why i think i should have got a highter loading dose of acyclovir. Another problem is that I got generic acyclovir, Hospital is cheap.. Maybe the original Acylovir (Zovirax from Pfizer) would have been better. The cost of my medication for this week totals up to at least about 450 ringgit (120 USD). I have to be getting back to work by the end of this week. But I think I won't be going to the operating theatre for at least another 10 days. (i hope) Maybe I'll just be sitting in the clinic seeing patients.

Wah this chicken pox business is quite uncomfortable! 26th of august, feeling muscle aches and general malaise. Pumped myself up with 90mg of arcoxia and 100mg of volteran, felt better after that.. 27th of august, still feeling malaise with a bit of fever. pumped up 200mg celebrex, 250mg mefenamic acid and 1 g of paracetamol.. also worked.. 28th of august.. could actually go to work. at work small vesicles started popping out, and got diagnosed by a skin specialist that i had chicken pox. 28th of August, BBQ night.. could even have a BBQ in my house.. (thats another story) Next day all the vesicles broke out.. Bloody painful! There was no denying it!! It was chicken pox alright. For the next 2 days, I couldn't even touch the computer.. All i could do was eat acyclovir and atarax, and pop sedatives to sleep and get it over with. Parents also came down from KL to look after me (big baby) Today its getting a bit better.. slightly more comfortable.. but still not normal... more later

Running on an iPAQ HX2750 with Intel Xscale Bullverde PXA270 processor @ 624Mhz PlaysDIVX AVI with no noticable lag so far. (Stargate atlantis HDTV) Benchmark with TCPMP SD with USB Average speed 166.86% Benchmark Data Rate 1.5 Mbit/s Original Data Rate 914 kbit/s SD Transcend 80x Average speed 160.88% Benchmark Data Rate 1.6 Mbit/s Original Data Rate 985 kbit/s No Visible difference. Both played video well. Transfer of a 20mb avi file. Sandisk Ultra II SD with USB 1GB SD usb to iPAQ (read) 45 secs (0.44mb/sec) iPAQ to SD usb (write) 62 secs (0.32 mb/sec) Transcend 80x 1GB SD to iPAQ (read) 30 secs (0.67mb/sec) iPAQ to SD (write) 30 secs (0.67mb/sec) Summary: READ: Transcend 80x SD 1GB is 1.5 times faster than Sandisk SD USB 1GB WRITE: Transcend 80x SD 1GB is 2.1 times faster than Sandisk SD USB 1GB BUT i still like the USB capability of the Sandisk!

I was on call on Friday.. and, as usual,, was operating from 8 in the morning till 5:30 am on Saturday.. I had a rest at 2-3 am on saturday morning.. Thats it... 6 oclock on saturday morning, i had to hop onto the hospital van and go to Penang for a short course on operative exposures.. Basket!! Eventually.. Slept in the Van on the way there, slept during the course, started having a headache at 12pm, continued the course in the afternoon doing cadeveric dissection, fell asleep everywhere... ha ha ha!! on top of all that, stomach ache when we stopped over at Juru while returning to Ipoh.. ha ha.. just tahan, didn't go to shit anywhere.. reached home at 6:30 pm.. Wife cooked dinner. Bathed, ate dinner and by 9pm, sleeping already.. till 7 am today.. Ha ha!!

Ha! Got back from work at 5:30pm today.. Wife not around as she's on call.. Have to hunt for some food to eat in the kitchen i suppose.. Fixed my keyboard.. Wire of the keyboard putus, so cut and joined it.. Opened up the keyboard so can join the wires inside there.. can't see from outside, but a lot of insulating tape stuck inside.. Dato gave a new project to do... Have to start some studying today i guess..

First week working after 6 weeks of leave.. Friday was tiring also.. from eight in the morning was running here and there, did a few cases in the operation theatre, and followed rounds till 11:30 at night!! Aiyah supposed to work till 10:00 but boss came late for rounds.. Saturday.. holiday!! bloddy hell my wife Kia Sportage, came back from breakfast, water boiling..!! I thought this was fixed already previously,, by filling up the reservoir tank.. guess not.. Anyway, took it to the mechanic in nearby petrol bunk.. Changed the clutch for the fan..400 ringgit, and then itchified ....wash the engine compartment of car.. it was dirty after painting the bonnet... Plug masuk air... mechanic opened up, apparently one of the plug socket broken.. change plugs and that socket another 100 bucks.. 500 ringgit gone. Saturday night... BBQ!! one of my boss leacing to private practive.. BBQ... lamb and chicken, the bunch of us finished 1 bottle grants, 1 bottle chivas and 1/2 bottle of Black.. I dunno why nowadays, i drink cannot get stoned! anyway, i was sober till the end.. Sunday.. today.. gotta buy new power supply for my desktop.. burned from too long running.. can smell the burnt smell from the power supply.. gonna get a 450 W powersupply...

Started operating today at 8 am.. Only assisting cases today.. high level cases of joint replacement. 9-11 am, total hip replacement, 11:30-2:30 pm, total knee replacement 3-6pm, another total knee replacement, 7-8pm tibia interlocking nail 8:45pm reach home, tired.... somemore tommorow on 2nd call again.. which meanse i run around the hospital seeing referral cases and hopefully get to come home at 10pm if there is no lasting problems.

Yesterday first day of being back to waork and the buggers put me on call.. Walau. yesterday on call never sleep man! Operating from 8 am yesterday morning till 6:30 am this morning.. Luckily the houseman OK, can do some simple cases.. I think i did...: One above knee amputation, 1 external fixator, 1 necrotizing fascitis, 1 medial condyle frature in kid, 1 distal radius fracture in kid thats just the big cases. Totally did 25 operative procedures yesterday.. Fuck tired man.! Just couldn't see any patients in the morning.. saw about 10 patients in the clinic and was falling asleep talking to them.. Came back from work at 11:30 pm, ate a sandwich and maggi mee, slept till 6pm.. Didin't even know wife came back.. later she told me i was snoring at 5pm.. ha ha !! Going for dinner now,, But i got to say.. its somewhat working , is different than loafing around..

Checked my engine oil level with a dipstick today, aiya.. below the low level. just touch tip only.. Promptly went out an bought a litre of cheapo helix just for the moment..
